The year twenty twelve is vastly approaching , with the new year, individuals will make a new years resolution, or something that person will change about themselves. A new year inspires people to change. The resolutions can be small, like have a better attitude, or a bigger resolution, like lose the weight gained on the holidays. When I made resolutions in the past, I might change a little, but by the end of January the resolution is forgotten.I will not be making a new years resolution for 2012 because the concept is pointless to me. If I really wanted to change something about myself I can do it anytime of the year, I am not really inspired to change with a new year.
Avondale’s GO week is meant to be a week of altruism, where the school comes together and supports a great cause and helps the community. Altruism is the important concept of being totally unselfish and doing something good for others. Although, GO week has its incentive and rewards for the top classes, it is still a practice of altruism depending on the persons intentions. If a person is only looking for self gain when volunteering, it is not altruism. The definition of the word includes unselfishness, so even if the person is still making a difference and helping the community the same way a selfless person would, it is not altruism. On the other hand, if a person is selfless and gets a rewarding feeling of making a difference, that is altruism.
